SeQure Quantum and the Municipality of Puerto Montt have signed a collaboration agreement to contribute scientific knowledge and quantum technology capabilities to the Innova Puerto Montt plan, an initiative that brings together the public sector, private industry, academia, and civil society to position the city as a national benchmark for innovation and technological development.
The agreement defines a joint roadmap focused on strengthening the municipality’s digital transformation. A key milestone is advancing toward Puerto Montt becoming the first municipality in Chile to adopt quantum security standards within its technological infrastructure, anticipating the challenges that quantum computing poses to data protection and cybersecurity.
Mayor Rodrigo Wainraihgt Galilea highlighted the strategic value of the partnership, stating that it “will allow us to apply this quantum technology to cybersecurity in Chile’s first municipality to do so, strengthening our systems and making them significantly harder to breach.”
The partnership also aims to create concrete opportunities for local talent development. SeQure Quantum will promote internship programs for students from the region, allowing them to gain hands-on experience developing quantum technologies applied to cybersecurity. In parallel, the initiative will support science outreach activities for children, with a strong focus on STEM education, presenting quantum technologies not only as a scientific concept, but as a real pathway for education and future careers.
